JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Creative Learning Instructor: Part-time Recreation
Department Position
PURPOSE OF JOB
The purpose of this job is to provide for the Instruction and
Supervision for children in grades K-6th in an ‘After School’
Recreation program from 3:00-5:30 pm. The instructor must create an
environment that encourages Recreation, Health, Academic Support,
Stress Release, and Free Play. Activities and programs are built
around Healthy activities that promote health and fitness,
recreational interests, learning and the social needs of the
participants. Each day will consist of participatory activities that
engage the children in some fitness component as well as a better
understanding of healthy life choices. Various sports and
preparational lead up games will assist in providing an orientation to
a number of specialized activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties, expectations, and responsibilities are normal
for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties
does not exclude them from the job if the work is similar, related, or
a logical assignment for this job. Other duties may be required and
assigned.
1. The position requires knowledge of working with age group children
and their abilities in a learning and Recreational environment.
2. The position requires
planning, supervisory, administrative, and teaching skills in the
activities that are developed for the program by the Department.
3. Assignments will be
directed by the Department but will include the care and maintenance
of a safe and healthy facility at all times
4. The position may
require a background check and possibly include finger printing
5. Certification in CPR
and First Aid training will be required.
6. The instructor shall
be charged with the responsibility of the students conduct however all
disciplinary actions need to be discussed with the Director of
Recreation prior to any action.
7. The instructor will
possess good communication skills with Parents as well as students and
have personal attributes that encourage participation and positive
self-esteem.
8. The welfare of each
individual must be in focus at all times as well as the need to
provide a climate that encourages a healthy lifestyle in Recreational
activities.
There may also be the opportunity to assist in monthly and annual
Recreation and other such events as per request from the Recreation
Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred education and experience at a level that allows one to be
successful in teaching and working with this age group of children in
a Recreation, School or professional setting.. Must possess or be able
to obtain a valid Vermont driver’s license.

time, place and/or sequence of operations, referencing data analyses
to determine necessity for revision of organizational components, and
in the formulation of operational strategy.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization:
Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions
of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing
essential functions.

of reference, descriptive, advisory and/or design data and
information.
Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform
addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise
independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing
approaches and techniques to resolve problems.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise
judgment, decisiveness and creativity in solving problems.
ADA COMPLIANCE
Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and, at times,
sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work,
typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing,
stooping, kneeling and crouching, and that may involve the lifting,
carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and
materials (20-50 pounds).
Tasks may involve extended periods of time in a vehicle or working
with vibrating equipment.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to
perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require
the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may
require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as
humidity, temperature extremes, and noise or traffic hazards.
